What interests you about the War of 1812?
life in general, clothing and accoutrements

I am an historical re-enactor and as such have done time from 1740's to 1860's.  With the bicentennial of the War of 1812 upon us, that time period is taking the forefront for the next few years.

What I hope to see is a resurgence of interest in that time, similar to what happened in 1967 when every other person made the effort to create the clothing appropriate for the time.

The clothing of the early 1800's was a far different thing, for the ladies especially, from the time periods before and after.  For the most part corsets were set aside and clothing was much lighter in weight and construction.  There are even patterns available through the standard pattern suppliers. . .  and those of us who keep all our old patterns can probably find something there that will suffice.  Generally "empire waisted" dresses could be simple or very elaborate.

If you wish to be totally correct, check out period patterns on-line.

Let's see what we can do!
