Hi Alicia,

I'm new at this format of e-communication but I have to say that I enjoy it. While my photo is not period accurate (as it is the 1880's NWMP uniform), at least it is historical so I thought I'd use it.

Is there a way to correct my first name as it appears "an Preston" instead of "Brian"?

Hi Alicia, I am working on a Town Crier outfit and we are trying to make something some what flashy.  I have period Frock coat patterns, but are either single or double breasted.  I seem to remember that your significant other had a style of frock coat that had a slight curve cut and

didn't close (Gananoque Period Clothing Workshop).  We want to be able to see the waistcoat to add interest and braiding & buttons on the Frock coat.  (Plus it may be a little less warm not having to button it up|)  Did they have that style during 1812?

They sure did. We found the model for Michael's coat in a book called Napoleon and the Empire of Fashion. It's court dress, so very flashy.

In the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice (BBC is usually pretty accurate), they have a form of double breast jackets that don't close and look pretty interesting. These would work for the period too.

1812 Dinner & Talk at Red George Pub

April 15, 2012 from 5:30pm to 9pm
Dinner & 1812 will feature the fine period cooking of Hamish at the pub as well as something fun related to the War of 1812.  For April, Robert Henderson will speak on War Stories on the Eastern Frontier. By 1813 this porous frontier lit up with enemy incursions, dulled only by undeclared non-aggression pacts between some border communities. Many lost War stories of heroes, spies, and villains from this region are both unique and surprising. A selection of these tales will be presented in…See More

Ever Fire a Cannon?

Posted on November 9, 2011 at 7:00am 4 Comments

This week I was given a rare treat. The ever fabulous interpretation officers at Fort Wellington National Historic Site invited me to set off their cannon "Willy" before putting him away for the winter. I would love to tell you how stoic I was in firing the artillery, but alas there is video footage to the contrary - I jumped.
