To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, we're asking students from grade 7 to the undergraduate level to bring back the Heritage Minute their own way!
Classrooms and individuals (ages 13-23) can now write and produce a live-action or animated 60-second video based on the war based on any story, person, event, or location related to the War of 1812.
The winning individual or group from both age categories (ages 13-16 and 17-23) will be awarded an iPad 2!
The contest is part of a series of initiatives put forth by The Historica-Dominion Institute, the largest independent organization dedicated to history and citizenship in Canada. Including:
- The official Parks Canada War of 1812 website (www.eighteentwelve.ca) created in partnership with The Royal Canadian Geographic Society, composed of 18 learning tools, 120 articles, trivia games and an interactive timeline.
- A 24-page glossy bilingual 1812 Education Guide to help students learn about this essential period in Canadian History available for free on our website www.historica-dominion.ca/1812,
Have these initiatives incorporated in your lessons plans or use them on your own to learn more about the War of 1812.
Don't forget to go to the www.eighteentwelve.ca to sign up for the contest!
