Songs & Music Related to the War

After having some songs recently sent to us about the War of 1812 - some serious and others not so much - we thought to start a listing of pieces here. Please feel free to add and update:

A Stan Rogers Classic - Macdonnel on the Heights
Don Graves has prepared an excellent collection of song lyrics.
Some music for dancing.
Of course, nothing sounds like the period but a fifes, drums and pipes.
Not for the easily irked, a humourous piece by the Arrogant Worms, the band's name should say it all.

Bob Scott, decendant Regiment 49th of foot UK. would be more than happy to be friend your good self, as one who loves Fife / Drums but does not have the Luxary back home, may be you could enlighten me more on the subject as there are some very good Fife & Drum Corps in the US. Bob.

I recently learned that this CD has some early Canadian music that dates from the time. Dr. Keillor told us at a recent talk that full operettas were commissioned in early Lower Canada!

Our folk duet has created an 1812 showcase. Yes folk music did exist in this era (not everyone was sitting around listening to fife's, drums and pipes). Some of our original recordings, about the 1812 era, now reside in the Canadian National Archives. We have performed this showcase live at 3 major 1812 festivals: 1. The Governor Generals visit to the Brock Monument in Queenston Heights, 2. The Capture of Detroit 1812 Fest of Windsor, 3. Roots to Boots 1812 Fest of Amherstburg. If anyone is interested in a live performance, by our duet, we can be contacted at: gonewrong@hotmail.ca
