Donald Graves: Historian and Author"Whither the War of 1812?: A Scholar of the Conflict Reviews Four Decades of Work in the Field and Prognosticates about the Future."
Synopsis: Donald Graves, who has researched professionally in the field of the War of 1812 since 1973, surveys the historical literature of the last forty years, pinpoints current scholarly trends, analyzes the effect of the Bicentennial on the subject and makes some predictions about future studies in the subject..
Closing Keynote
"1812 Coalition War, World War"
Synopsis: The War of 1812 did not happen in isolation. It was one of a number of significant world events during this time in history.
Considering this broader context, Lieutenant General Riley will examine the four main areas of military operations: Central Europe, Spain, the Mediterranean and North America looking at the strategic connections and paradoxes that linked them.
Dinner & Ball
A dinner, ball, and soiree will be held after the conference on the evening of Saturday, February 25th. Cocktails will begin at 6:30 pm, with dinner to be served at 7:00 pm. Dancing, with calling by Karen Millyard, will follow dinner. For those not wishing to dance, a separate area will be made available for socializing, and in addition, a hands-on workshop on period card games will be offered by Julie Rockhold. Admission to the evening's proceedings is CAD$40 per person, and tickets may be purchased by using the general registration form. Formal or period dress is requested; adults only, please.
