The Bicentennial of the War of 1812 will be marked with observances, living history events and military re-enactments across Ontario from 2012 to 2014. Because of the number of sites that will be observing their actual bicentennials in 2012 the Friends of Crysler's Farm will not be holding a military re-enactment that year. Instead will be concentrating our efforts on 2013, the year of our bicentennial, when Joseph Wanton Morrison's "Corps of Observation" defeated an American army three times its size on the banks of the St. Lawrence on the Crysler, Van Allen and Fetterly farms.
Our re-enactment weekend, which will be the signature Eastern Ontario bicentennial event in 2013, will be held at the Battlefield Memorial adjacent to Upper Canada Village on July 13 and 14 of that year.
We will also hold a sombre service of remembrance at the Battlefield Memorial at 9 a.m. Mon., Nov. 11, the actual date of the 200th anniversary of the battle that turned aside the largest American invasion of the Canadas during the war.
